Shekinah has 287 acres of beautiful woodlands, streams, and valleys and is located on the North Saskatchewan River. This setting provides unique and memorable outdoor experiences. Summer camp, group retreats and worship are a few of the activities that take place. Shekinah is owned and operated by Mennonite Church Saskatchewan.



Directions

Shekinah Retreat Centre, located 50 minutes north of Saskatoon on the North Saskatchewan River, offers a great new learning experience for kids and adults throughout the year. Shekinah is accessible year round by travelling straight north on Highway 12 from Saskatoon, turning right at the Shekinah roadsign just north of the town of Hepburn. Follow this grid road turning left at the correction line and right again at the next available turn (about 1/4 kilometre). Continue north until you reach Shekinah.

Natural Setting

ravine Located on the North Saskatchewan River, Shekinah showcases some of the tremendous beauty and diversity contained in the natural world. Life abounds from the bottom of the river to the clouds in the sky. All kinds of plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds, fungi, and insects can be seen everywhere you look.

Timber Lodge

 Nestled among a grove of poplar trees and overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley, this building is an architectural gem - a three story, timber-framed building designed to meet a wide variety of conference and retreat needs. Although perfect for church conferences and business meetings of all kinds, the Timber Lodge is also the ideal place for celebrations! Weddings, family reunions, anniversary parties, holiday gatherings - all are celebrated in comfort and style in the Timber Lodge!

Chalet

 Shekinah's Chalet is fully winterized and is equiped with a roomy modern kitchen, including a gas range, walk-in-cooler, pots & pans, mixing/serving bowls, and enough dishes and cutlery to serve 80 to 90 people. The dining hall/meeting room seats 100 people and sleeps 50 - 60 people on matresses on the floor. A curtain can be pulled across the centre of the room for privacy. The modern washrooms are equipped with showers.

 

 
Hermitage

 The Hermitage is a rustic, two-story log house situated on a hilltop overlooking Shekinah property and the North Saskatchewan River valley. For those seeking a pioneer experience, the Hermitage has no amenities. Dishes and utensils are provided and cooking is done on an old-fashioned woodburning stove. Wash water must be carried outside. Gas and kerosene lanterns provide light in the evenings and an air-tight woodburning stove is used for heating. Hermitage guests use nearby outdoor toilet. The Hermitage sleeps 15 people.

 
Cabins

 Each of Shekinah's two cabins, Poplar Place and Aspen Alcove is equipped for year-round use. Air-tight woodburning stoves provide warmth and a cozy atmosphere. The cabins have limited kitchen facilities and cooking is done on a two-burner electric hotplate. Dishes and utensils are provided. Each cabin sleeps a total of 15 people. Two bedrooms off the living room/kitchen area accomodate 10 people in bunk beds. As well, each cabin has a hide-a-bed and mattresses are available for several more to sleep on the floor. Cabin guests have achoice of using an outdoor toilet or the bathroom facilities located in the Chalet. Any wash water must be carried outside.

 
Shanty Tents

 For those wanting a "tenting" experience, Shekinah has ten popular Shanty Tents. Each sleep six comfortably. Their simple construction, with 4 foot walls and tarp roofs, allow the night sounds to filter through without worrying about bugs or rain.

Trailer Park

A number of electrified sites surround a fire pit in a small clearing.  The trailer park is located near the chalet and shanty tents.
