Recreational Pursuits
If your school's objectives for an outing at Shekinah are primarily recreational, the following suggestions are available for you to consider:
The Wilderness Experience - Consider what it would be like to sleep in a tipi or in a shanty tents in spring or fall, or build a quinzhee or igloo for a winter overnighter. Or possibly going X-country skiing on the trails or tobogganing down Quill Hill is what you had in mind? Or, you could hike down Ravine Trail, stopping to explore the creek bed, or to take in a veiw from the top. The wilderness experiences are endless.
Canoeing - Depending on the flow of the North Saskatchewan River, your group could try a 2.5 hour trip from Petrofka Bridge to Shekinah or a longer 4-5 hour trip from Shekinah to Fort Carlton. Or perhaps you just want to learn how to canow and then try out your new skills in the pond. Just keep in mind that a staff person with their lifeguard or canoe certification is required for these activities.
Orienteering - Learn the skills of staying found and learn to really see the things around you that might help you find yourself; you could choose either map or compass orientateering. Don't get lost!
Climbing - Learn the basics of rock climbing on Shekinah's three-level Jericho Wall. Challenge yourself, be encouraged by your peers, and make it as far as you can!
